Macro Pad v1 thoughts, onto v2

IT WORKED ON FIRST TRY :3

Improvements Needed

PCB

I'm not sure about whether to make v2 with a matrix or keep it swithc-per-pin. Matrix is a lot neater and looks more legit, but switch-per-pin would be easier because it's smoothbrain and I could just copy-paste the wiring that I have in my hand and I know works. Decided to use seeed studio XIAO ESP32C3 in the next iteration. It's

usb-c (bc who tf still has micro usb cables) and it's got built-in battery management and bluetooth. It's also cheaper and smaller, which means I could keep the case footprint the same and it in a 3000-4000mhA battery in there. Still have to figure out how big the battery should actually be. I can't just stick the biggest one I can in there, because batteries lose health when not in use and drain over time regardless of circuit power consumption. I'll do this after I get the next set of PCBs printed and the mc ordered though, easier to unga bunga with a multimeter than to pick up a calculator.

Case

I kind of like the irregular shape so I'll keep that even though the new mc doesnt need it. Third time was the charm with 3D printing this, it just clicks in at the moment. Might work on a better mounting system, this is a bit of a hack but works for now. Would be good to see it in:

  1. Other colours?
  2. Clear variant
  3. Aluminium

I'm also getting another nvme and dual-booting Linux, Windows is getting shittier by the week.

TODO:

  • Adjust pcb for new mc and get it printed
  • Order new parts
  • Look into new case materials + possible improvements
